Top 8 Common SEO Mistakes
SEO is all about making your website appear at the top search engine results page for the keywords you have chosen. But most of the webmaster fails to be successful in the overall SEO process. There can be many reasons. Therefore, I have explained below some of the common SEO mistakes to be avoided.
- Use of frames
- Images are more than text
- Too often search engine submission
- Overuse of keywords
- Same color of the text and background
- Website not available during spidering
- Robots not allowed to index
- No incoming links at all
Actually, frames are not SEO friendly. The reason is that search engines only index the frameset page not every individual frames. Usually the frameset page does not have Meta tags, title and enough content which are necessary to obtain a good listing. The best solution would be to avoid frames in your website if possible.
‘Text’ in other word ‘content’ is very important to get indexed by the search engines. It will be very difficult for them if your website has lot of images than text because they cannot know what is written on your images. If you have to use lot of images in your website, it is better to add ‘alt’ attribute inside the image tag. Also, you should create web pages with keyword rich content.
Most search engines will consider as spamming if you submit your website more than once a month. Spamming or black hat SEO does not work with them in the long run process. As a result, your website will be penalized and it takes long time to recover from it.
It is not a good idea to overuse keywords repeatedly in your content or in Meta tags because search engines will assume as if you are spamming them. This might be the best strategy in the past but not now.
In order to achieve higher rankings in the search engines, some web designers adopt quick SEO strategies. They try to make their web pages with keyword rich contents by repeatedly using keywords in the same color as of the text and background. This makes the text invisible to the visitors. But no worry, search engines can know this trick.
Sometimes search engine spiders may not find your website during spidering. The reason would be your web server down. If your site has already been indexed but failed to respond at the time of spidering, your site will likely to achieve lower ranking or may be removed from the listings. Therefore, do not make mistake in choosing a reliable web host provider.
Sometime you cannot find the listings of your site in any of the search engines because robots were not allowed to index your website. Search engine robots are blocked in two ways, either in robots.txt file or in the Meta tags. Check for sure if this is the same problem with yours.
Incoming link is a link pointing to your site form other website. Your site needs to have as much incoming links as possible in order to get top ranking. It is one of the most important factors in SEO, mainly for Google. If your website does not have enough incoming links, search engines will not give any importance resulting in lower rankings. So, try to build links from different link building techniques.
